John Gillock - Class Of 1964

John Gillock

Chris Gillock (1972)

I wanted to leave the news on this forum that my brother, John Gillock (Class of 1964) died on August 31, 2021. He was the best brother I could have hoped for, a great father & husband, a master teacher and a friend to so many people. He stayed close to many of his classmates at PHS.  His memorial is pending, but will be in Portland OR.

John was a great guy with so much intellect, personality, and a great sense of humor. It was my pleasure along with some others to spend time with John these past few years. It was rigged to watch his body let him down. However, he soldiered on and continued to be an inspiration to all who knew him.

Dear Susan and family, sincere condolences.  The world lost a very special person, with John no longer with us.

Like my esteemed classmates, I loved spending time with John over the last 10 years.  His vibrant, warm, forward-looking spirit overshadowed his physical challenges late in life, and he was a hub for us, as we reconnected after many years.  Those of us from Madison and Muir were so fortunate to begin to learn young about what qualities we should want of good friends because we grew up with smart, fun compatriots like John.  And I know he was a teacher; I would have loved to have been his student.

I did not know John very well. I had him in a few classes. John was the kind of student we all should of been but werent. He had great school spirit a great attitude and the teachers must have all loved him as did the students

So very sorry to hear this news. I knew John from John Muir and Pacific. He was a good friend and a great student. Losing classmates from our class of 64 is way too soon for me. We shared many classes together but I was not in his level of intelligence.  RIP in peace, John.
