Ralph J. Cook
August 11, 1947 - June 8, 2016
Ralph J. Cook was born August 11th, 1947 in Oakland, California and passed away on June 8th, 2016 at the age of 68.  Ralph attended grammar school and high school in San Leandro, California.  He graduated from California State University Hayward in 1970 where he played collegiate basketball.  He would go on to receive a Juris Doctorate from University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
Ralph was admitted to the California State Bar in 1973 and began his career in Merced County specializing in family law.  In 1979, with great pride, he opened his own law office.  Despite a thriving practice, he closed his office in 1987 to spend more time with family.  He worked briefly as Deputy District Attorney before being appointed a Superior Court Commissioner in 1988.  After 24 years as Commissioner he retired in 2012.
Family was always prioritized over professional success.  He was a dedicated father, never missing a school event or athletic game.  He was a passionate supporter of youth sports, coaching many of his children's teams.  In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He is remembered for his work ethic, dedication, and kind heart.
Ralph is survived by his two children Kelli Mahoney (Ryan) of Rio Vista and Kevin Cook (Sarah) of Solana Beach, sister Maureen Robinson (Gerald) of Copperopolis, grandchildren McKayla Mahoney, Emily Mahoney, Connor Mahoney and Oliver Cook, and former wife Christine Lyons-Cook.  He is preceded in death by his parents John Cook Jr. and Ruth Cook.
A private service was held in Oakland.  The family requests and encourages memories, stories, pictures, and condolences be sent to ralphcookmemorial@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers please send any contributions in memory of Ralph to Merced County Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 3319, Merced, CA 95344.

Sandra Caldeira (Stowers-Caldeira) (1965)

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Ralph's death in a car accident.  Ralph lived on the same street as me on Eveleth in San Leandro. We recently had reconnected at one of the class of '65s lunches and had a lot of laughs reminiscing about our fun times as kids. I was looking forward to seeing him at many more such gatherings. I still can't believe it has really happened. I'm sending condolences to his family. So sorry for this sudden loss. Many prayers are being sent to you. Stay strong.

I just found out about the passing of Ralph. Stunned and numb what hit me first, then all I could think about was the wonderful time Ralph and I had,at Harry's Hofbra at the class of 65's get togethers. I had not seen Ralph in years, more than 30. Ralph looked great, fit, lean and the same great demeanor and style. We talked about those great years at Pacific, and of course, our memotes playing hoop,as Vikings. I played with a lot guys, on a some great teams, Mr. Cook could flat out shoot, smooth,he could hit from everywhere. We re connected at that luncheon at Harrys, traded numbers,to stay in touch. I'm honored to say that I Ralph and I were friends, who shared some wonderful memories. RC, you will be missed. Danny Paiva
