Sid Castro

Graduated from San Jose St. in 1969. Began teaching h.s. English and history in Sunnyvale in 1970. Retired in June, 2009 after 38 years. Also coached varsity baseball for over 20 years, coached football for 15, and served as faculty president for 12 years.
Married twice, once for 18 years and the other for 7. Been divorced 14 years.
Love travel, music, dancing, concerts, movies, plays, browsing book stores, fishing and flea markets. Still very active, and help at-risk kids one night a week in history. Use my place at South Tahoe for skiing, hiking, fishing, bicycling, and having fun.

Fabulous 3 years at PHS. Great memories of senior hayrides, dances, football games, rallies, and the togetherness of the student body. Also recall the baseball games at San Leandro ball park, the swimming pool which was never built on campus, and kids throwing softballs and footballs onto the freeway when they didn't want to participate in P.E.
Do you remember how we walked in circles around the main building as we symbolically tried to figure out what we would do with our lives?
Most admired teacher: Doc Simmons, (Dr. Gordon T. Simmons) who raised the academic bar in all his physiology classes.
Best coaches: El Brown, Jim Johnston, and Carl Feick.
Weirdest teacher: Mr. Gustafson, a guy who knew math but couldn't teach it, and still loved kids despite their behaviors.
I still have a blue chunk of concrete from PHS. When they were knocking it down I got a piece of the gym. It is in my office.
