Jim, I saw your post about the selection process for which high school would survive the cut back in the 80's. Like any other citywide issue, an argument can made for either school remaining open. Age, value of property, location etc... One thing I'd add to your comments is that the PHS buildings had another issue that was hushed up. There was an asbestos issue at PHS that wasn't disclosed until after the property was sold to the commercial developer. I've met and personally know the developer that purchased the PHS property and found that after the deal was completed, they had over $1 million (1986 dollars) in additional costs to clean up the asbestos in the main circular buildings and wings that extended the science, arts, shops classes. Who know, probably the same issue at SLHS at the time. Hope you're doing well and thanks for the background on how the selection process was made.
