Joseph was born on April 18, 1946 and died in Vietnam on March 2, 1967. He along with 9 other Pacific High School and 2 San Leandro High School Alumni gave their lives for our country. Everyone is welcome to visit the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in the main lobby of San Leandro High School.

PFC Joseph Vierra died on 02 March 1967 of wounds received in action on 01 Mar 1967, when C Company, 2/34th Armor, was conducting a security operation along Highway 239, 8 kilometers west-southwest of Dau Tieng, in support of elements of the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry. During the operation, the US forces tangled with a reinforced battalion of enemy troops. C/2/34 lost two tanks, with two men killed in action (SSgt Alvester Hill and SP4 Jerry Duane Byers) and 8 men wounded in action.From the
