Dorothy Ann Witt
05/12/1934 - 06/02/2013
Resident of San Leandro
Dorothy passed away on 6/2/13 in San Leandro shortly after her 79th birthday after a short illness. She was born in Oakland and lived in San Leandro for over 50 years. She worked for many years as a school secretary with the San Leandro Unified School District at Pacific High, McKinley Elementary, and Bancroft Middle School.
While she was working, she loved to square dance, play the piano and accordion, and walk her dogs at the San Leandro Marina.
In her retirement, she loved doing crossword puzzles in ink (no pencil for her), driving around the Marina, following the Oakland A's, feeding stray cats, and every Saturday morning having breakfast at Dick's Restaurant with her family and best friend Mary.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Norman Witt Sr., and her parents Julian & Vivian LeSire. She is survived by her son, Norman Witt Jr. and daughter-in-law Shari Rosaaen and her daughter Julie Ketels and son-in-law Dave Ketels.
At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, and for her love of animals, donations in her name can be made to either Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (arf.net or 2890 Mitchell Dr., Walnut Creek, CA 94598) or the Oakland SPCA (oaklandspca.org or 8323 Baldwin, Oakland CA 94621).
