Joe "Jody" Kitchen - Class Of 1966

Joe Jody Kitchen

Joseph W. Kitchen
July 9, 1948 - September 9, 2021
Resident of Livermore, CA
After a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease, Joseph William Kitchen (Jody or Joe), 73 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 9, 2021. Joe was a "home grown" San Leandro boy, who attended all San Leandro schools (Go Vikes!) He was an avid sports fan - Go Niners! Go A's! - and he dearly loved the game of golf! His chosen career was law enforcement, beginning with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, and then continuing for 32 years with the San Leandro Police Department. Joe completed his career as Chief of Police for San Leandro and retired in 2007. He took pride in and felt privileged to lead the fine men and women of the department, who worked selflessly to protect the City of San Leandro. Joe leaves behind his beloved wife Sharon of 51 years, two daughters Stephanie Persi (Lino), Lynsay Allen (Shawn), brother Craig Kitchen (Heather), and five beautiful grandchildren, Anthony (20), Domenic (16), Taitem (15), Olivia (13) and Nicholas (12). He was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He made his mark on all who knew him, and his legacy will live on. Let's wear our favorite sports team's shirt and celebrate Joe's incredible life together!
A gathering will be held as follows:
Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 4:00 PM
McGrail Vineyards
5600 Greenville Road
Livermore, CA 94550
For the countless number of people who have inquired about donations, the family has requested your kindness and generosity be focused on either The Michael J. Fox Foundation or Hope Hospice of Dublin.
The family sends thanks to all who have been so supportive during this difficult time.

Sharon,

Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. While Joe struggled these last several years he always made it to our reunions and it was a pleasure to see and talk with him. He was a "Viking" and a leader in our class of '66. RIP

Oh my God! I am so very sorry. My condolances to his family. I knew him well for the junior high school years and a short time at Pacific. I am not sure of the cause of death, and hope it was not due to Covid 19. My prayers go out.

I am sorry that Jody passed away.   He was policeman in San Leandro for about 25 to 30 years.   I remembered  Jody riding the police motorcycle up and down down Davis street in mid seventies.  He retired as police of Chief in late 90’s or early 2000’s.  With some many of our classmates of class 66 passing away l was hoping that we would have our 55th class reunion this year.  Our class of 66 is getting smaller every year and we should try get tiogether at least once a year.   Jody has gone to join are other departed classmates in big Pacfic High school in the sky.   He will be missed     Mike Brotsis   510 919 6635

Joe and I used to see one another on calls we had together when he was in the PD and I the FD for the city. We would sometimes talk about mutual friends from Pacific after the call. Rest in peace Joe, I'll see you at the "BIG ONE"

I was sorry to read about Jody's passing.  We knew each other since grammar school at James Monore.  We used to play baseball together after school sometimes; pitching & hitting, some fielding stuff.  As we went on to John Muir & Pacific Jody became a well respected athlete and likable student.  His success as Police Chief in San Leandro was a testament to our class of '66 & Pacific High.   My sincere condolences to Sharon and her family.  Having lost him, I feel fortunate to have seen him at our 50th Class reunion.  Jaci Rivosa Gamaza
