Marina Garcia (Gelpe) - Class Of 1966

Marina Garcia (Gelpe)

From: Randall Johnese (1968)

Sad news ... I just received a call from Marina Garcia (Gelpe)'s cousin Claudia to let me know that Marina passed away this morning.  At on time she and I were engaged.  We also sang together as a folk duet and in other folk groupings and worked as volunteer organizers for the United Farm Workers together. We lost touch in the late 70's but I heard from her occaisionally over the years.  I know that she continued to sing and act and she worked as a teacher until she retired in up state New York.  Marina was always a voice of progressive politics and she will be missed.

I'm sad to hear of Marina's passing.  I remember her as as quiet and reserved yet friendly; as a Song Girl;  competent, talented and beautiful.  I think she was voted as having "Prettiest Eyes"for the Sr yearbook!  My condolences to her family and close friends.

My sincere sorrow to Marina's family and friends. May she find comfort in the arms of Jesus for eternity and may precious memories of Marina comfort her loved ones.  Rest in Peace Marina - the pretty girl in school with the most beautiful eyes.
Marina.... not gone ~ simply waiting on the other side.

After a total of nearly 30 years of living and working in Manhattan I also 'retired' to the 'Upstate' New York a couple of years ago. To now find that one of my former classmates and I were practically rubbing shoulders without connecting is really sad. Her bio on several sites indicates that, like myself, she was a political activist and supporter of the UFW and other community organizations. We may have never known each other at PHS (we only overlapped for one year) but it is heartening to know that PHS created another Comrade-in -arms.
