1947-2009 Resident of San Leandro Beloved companion of Carmen Varela, passed away peacefully at the family home on March 12, 2009 at the age of 61. John is survived by companion, Carmen Varela, brother, Scott Rizzo and his wife, Toni, and a sister, Judy Gilberti and her husband, John. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Sonja and numerous nieces and nephews, and by his loving extended family on the Varela side. Preceded in death by his parents, John G and Dorothy and younger brother, Rick Rizzo. John was lifelong resident of San Leandro and was born in Berkeley, CA on May 15, 1947. He graduated from Pacific High School. John was a truck driver Foamex Manufacturing for 31 years. He was forced to retire due to illness. John's greatest love was dancing, music, movies and family gatherings. John touched many lives with his gentle spirit and positive outlook on life. He will surely be missed by all of us who loved him very much. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation gathering on Wed., Mar. 18, 2009 between the hours of 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm and a Memorial Service at 10:00 am on Thur. John was family. He was my Aunt Carmen's companion and we spent many family holidays and events with him. He was gentle,kind and generous...his heart was huge and we miss him dearly.
John was such a sweet and giving person. He was more like a brother than a brother-in-law. You could always count on his laugh and joking around. He had such a positive outlook right up to the end. We will truly miss him. Your loving sister-in=law
