I am saddened to learn or Greg's passing.  I only knew Greg from football, but still recall a time when Greg, Bud Silvey, and I had gone out for something or other in Greg's Mini (it's funny to recall Greg as a rather big guy cruisin' in a Mini).  I don't recall where we were headed, but it was before school and we were quite a distance from PHS.  Well, fate would have it that the Mini broke down and wouldn't restart.  Bud and I started hitchhiking to get to school before class started and Greg remained with his car.  Why I remember this story is a mystery to me, but hopefully it will stay with me for many years to come.  I know that Greg posted a very genuine and heartfelt note concerning the passing of Steve Kerr...that was the first I had heard anything from him since graduation.

May God bless and keep him and grant peace to his family and loved ones.

Robin Caruso (1977)

My brother Greg passed away October 1st, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.  My sister Lyn and I were with him holding his hands telling him it was ok to leave.   We lost our mother earlier in June of this year. He is survived by his sisters and 2 nieces.

Greg did not want anyone to feel sad  for him.  He had no regrets and he lived his life the way he wanted to.  He passed away from liver cancer.  He had a tough one to beat but he gave it his best fight.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony is schedule at:

The F.A.A.S.L Hall on 857B Alvarado ST, San Leandro - Behind Daily Chevrolet

On November 5th, 2011 At 2:00 P.M.

As he wanted there will be a short ceremony and than the party starts.

I miss you more than you will ever know my friend. It is hard to say good bye to someone that was like a brother to me. I'm sorry that circumstances barred me from getting to see you in merced. To those of you that don't know greg and I have been friends since the first day he started in John Muir. We have seen each other through some pretty tough times in our lives and a few marriages. For the football guys do you remember Greg and I riding to practice on his yamaha 80? He was a man that had a hard exterior but once you got to know him he was a kind and gentle man. He would give you the shirt off his back. Always made time in the week to catch up with friends on the phone. I know you and linda are happily together forever after. I love you my friend God bless you.May GOD give peace to your sisters and nieces. J.C.<//><

I knew Greg all of my life, he was like an uncle to me.  He was very protective of those he loved and called family.  He might have come across like a loud grizzly bear, but that heart was all soft like a cuddly teddy bear.  I've been going through family pictures lately, remembering my uncle Sandy (Floyd Crawford - Class of 1969) and ran across a photo of Greg that I wanted to share with our fellow Vikings, to those who knew him and his smile.  He may be gone but his soul was larger than life and he is far from ever being forgotten, especially by the Crawford Family.

Forever in my heart.
