I haven't seen Rick since the fall of 1970, when he walked into my hospital room by accident and recognized me in there. The doctor's meds couldn't come close to alleviating my pain, but Rick's did!! I hadn't been on my feet in days (compound leg fracture) and he helped me to the bathroom and we lit up a fat one. Instantly, no exageration, the pain was gone, completely! He helped me back to bed and stayed with me, making me laugh the whole time.
I knew Rick since Muir, and had been in track n field with him a couple of seasons. He was a great friend: not a troublemaker, always up, and had my back a few times. Through all the years I did try to find him but couldn't. I hope he is up there, with his chicken-like stride, feet pointing outward, making everyone laugh with his observations. God bless him.
