Hello All,

I live in Rail Road Flat. The Electra Fire is very close to my home. We have been in evacuation warning since Monday, July 4th. It is now 65% contained. Will not be 100% contained until about July 18th. It is a very scary situation. We had the Butte Fire here in 2015 and did evacuate for 9 days. It burned 4 miles around our home but we were saved. The Electra Fire was because a party of people started a bon fire. Visitors into these mountain counties do not understand that fire is not a good thing up here in the country. We are hoping this fire does not strike up again and move towards us. Keep us in your prayers, please.

Leslie

Leslie.   I will add You and Rail Road Flats and the Electra Fire to our Prayer Warriors,  We have prayed for the "fires" for years and some have gone to help with Salvation Army and other groups. I can't figure how people can be so thoughtless  and our laws, convictions and punishment get weaker and weaker.   Please keep us up on how you are doing, My prayers will be for You and family and neighbors,

Peggy -1968

Leslie, we are in Pioneer across the river from you.  I'm glad to hear you survived through the Butte fire and are okay with the current Electra fire.  80% contained now!

I will continue to pray for you and everyone in harm's way as well as the fire fighters and emergency personnel who work tirelessly.  We are so thankful.  During our summer months, with the extreme fire risk, it's hard not to feel anxious. Trying to relax and enjoy the beautiful place in which we live.

Thank you to those who responded. A few of you know the area. Pioneer, Sutter Creek etc. The fires are awful. We have PTSD just from the Butte fire. Any time there is another fire you just lose it somewhat. Electra Fire is about 80% contained. Only, but horribly, 4478 acres have burned. They hope with be 100% contained by July 18th. We pray for no flare ups. Hope California will not have many incidents this year.

Having a wild fire near you is definaaely scarry, but until you've lost everything in a wild fire, you can't really comprehend the devistation both physically and mentally.  We were awakend by PG&E at 2 am on Aug. 19, 2020 telling us our power was out and when I looked out the window the fire was 200 yards away, headed right for us with 35mph winds.  This was the LNU fire in Vacaville, and it destroyed everything we owned.  We got out with the clothes on our back, our two dogs and two of our cars.  We are rebuilding and hope to be in by Sept.  The rebuilding is nearly as stressful as was the fire.

I just hope none of you have to go through with this.  Keep a defensible space around your home, but in our case, it didn't help.

My brother, Rick Ludwigsen (class of ‘70), passed away on Tuesday, July 19 after a 10 month valiant battle against cancer. He was a  loving brother, Uncle, husband, and a great friend. He will be missed by many but is now at rest. Another Viking gone too soon.

Kenneth, I am so sorry for Your loss and I Praise God You were able to get out with Your family incl the dogs.  Karen (Denham-'68) and Larry Fenicle ('66) live up North in Shingletown and have had to "warning/advise" to evacute a few times. But nothing happened.  Larry has advance Parkinsons, but still his fisty attitude, esp with physical therapy. HAHA don't we all.  I fell off a Paratransit bus in Dec, down 4'  into the gutter and street, hit my head, pull my shoulder, still have pains and some days i can do it all, and then I can also struggle.  Trusting God brings me through it.  Dave Jungkeit ('66) and his family live in Redding and have been ok too, close calls but nothing like Kenneth did.  I agree I can't imagine what it would be like.  When I first became single again with three little kids under 5 I went though a lot of fear and worry, esp when I only hand 2 arms to grab all 3.  Now they are 46, 44, 41 and I have 7 cats to treasure too.  So Kenneth You sound like you have the strength and caring to rebuild and keep everyone together.  Is there anything I might be able to pray or help with?  I believe I hung around a little with your sister Lenore at school?  I do care about what You are going through.

Dale Pooley (1978)

Debbie! Oh my goodness ... haven't seen or heard your name in many, many years (probably since you were still in High School or very recently graduated (and I was but an adolescent schoolboy/early teenager maybe starting at John Muir Jr. High (back when they were still called "Junior Highs" and not "Middle Schools" as they typically are today ... but have thought of you and Rick often over the years all the same. You had the cutest face of freckles around. Cute as a bug, you were ... and from your photos posted here I see you remain a stunningly lovely lady. I rememeber the both of you vividly, as I do your wonderful parents. I lived down the street from you and Rick and your folks on Elm Street, and I think you probably babysat for us for a spell when me and my brother were very young. My mom, Anita Pooley —the nurse on the block—even helped you when your waters unexpectedly broke. How's that for a blast from the past? I remember Rick always working on his car on the street in front of your house, and how one time the younger kids on the block rode up to me on their bikes and said there was a "werewolf" working with Rick on his care that day, so I ran down to see what they were talking about: kind of squinted my eyes and looked sideways at this "werewolf" character, and asked him, "Are you Scott Stoner?", and he responded, "Yeah, I'm Scott." And the three of us just laughed. I knew who he was because he was the big brother of my one-time best friend Brett Stoner, whose family had all moved away to Fresno (I believe it was), and I missed them dearly. Anyway ... little bit of reminiscence there.

But I am truly sad to learn of Rick's passing as of today. I remember him fondly, of course, as I do you. I always pointed out the portrait (baseball? foolball? can't remember which it was) of him above the PHS gym doors and proudly declared to my cohorts, "Hey—I KNOW that guy! He's my neighbor down the street! Great guy!"

He likely lived a good life (only you and all those close to him would know; regrettably, I cannot), but nevertheless surely still taken too soon, as so many we know are. I know only that in the brief time that I knew him when I was just a kid down the block, he was a really nice and pleasant fellow. And handsome to boot. I pray he is at peace. And I wish you and your family comfort and all the best.  —Dale Pooley

Hey Dale, thank you for your post and a wonderful trip down memory lane. I remember the Stoner’s; Ted, Shirley and the kids Scott, Rory, Brett and Karla too. Elm Street was a great street to grow up on with all the fun neighborhood games we played up and down the street until the lights came on. You were right Dale, I did babysit you and Craig. Once I got you guys to sleep I'd order a pepperoni pizza from Porkys with a side salad. Good times! Also when your family would go on vacation I'd dog sit your Keeshond, Ruff. I enjoyed helping your mom around the house especially using Pledge to wax the black piano. I'd also accompany you guys to go visit your dad at his shop in Alameda.  My brother was a cool guy and always had my back as well to my boys. He was a friend for a lifetime and I'll miss him always.

Another Viking left us in July (14th). Larry Bain class of 65 passed away and will be missed . He was a great "little" brother. His pain is gone and he is in a better place but has left a gaping hole for his family.

Thank you, Larry. He played football & baseball for PHS & he enjoyed it all. In fact, as a kid he played baseball for the various sports leagues in town & made many friends there too. I believe you lived next door to the Epps family. Living in Bonaire was a great childhood especially during our years of the 50s through 70s.

My little brother,Ricky Paiva was born 73 years ago, a Boomer, just like the rest of us. I'm celebrating Ricky today,if you shared some of our adventures, played on teams with us, enjoyed the 50's n 60's with us, you always saw us together. Danny and Ricky Pauva. Rick was my best friend, best team mate, loyal and faithful brother. He was an amazing man, father, grandfather. He always saw good in every one and everything. If you had the opportunity to see him play Hoops? One of Pacific's best players, at 5'10", he made First team all league at Forward!. I miss him every single day, we were an amazing team, Rick and I.
