Answer to Question # 11

My first car was a '67 Dart with a Slant 6 engine.  Sitting in the car with the owner, I agreed to buy it, gave him the $700, then he said "now that you bought it I'll tell you that the passenger window does not roll up or down".  I think I should have been pretty angry!  But instead I fixed it in an afternoon and didn't have to buy any parts!

My wife, who I met in San Diego in'73, I'm sure was not impressed by that car, but that never occurred to me.

BTW that car was considered a compact and it could seat 6 and actually seems as big as an aircraft carrier now.  Today's SUVs also seat 6.

The first car I purchased was a 1962 Sunbeam Alpine convertible.  I paid $800 for it.  I think that my dad enjoyed it more than I did, since he loved working on cars, and British sports cars constantly needed work.

My first car was a 1956 Chevy.  I hated that car.  It constantly needed repairs.

I think the first car I bought was a 1954 Plynouth  4 door sedan. The neighbor sold it to me for either $10, or $25. I had an Earl Scheib paint job put on it and drove it until my next vehicle came along. I think I sold it for $50.

Love for cars started at an early age. My bother and I would build TR-4 sports cars and then sell them. We would buy them for $150, fix them and then sell them for $1500. My First real car in High school was a 1962 ford Galaxy that I dove for a year and then sold to purchase a 1970 Cuda that I still own. But the third car I purchased is what got me hooked and started my car collection, it was a 1972 Porsche 911 purchased in 1973 the year I went to Santa Clara Univ. I now have 10 Porsche's, 11 Rx-7s, and many other sports cars.

The poster on the wall car for many guys growing up at the time was a  Lambroghini Countach with the big wing in the back and in fire engine red.  I finally decided to purchase one 10 years ago. Found one in LA Shiiped it to Northen California where I live. I was excited to get into this car and drive it because it looked so cool and fast just sitting there. I got into the car and drove it 10 minutes and found it to be the most uncomfortable sports car I have ever driven. That is the last time I drove it but it still looks cool. Lesson learned to drive the car before you buy it no matter how cool it looks.

#11 my first car was a 1967 Chevy Camaro, Yellow with half black vinyl top, 4 speed. I loved that car so much as I bought it myself and my biggest reason was to show a special guy in my life that even though we weren't together any longer, he taught me well when it came to cars! Thanks so much David Bunday for giving me so many special memories!😊

My first car was a green 51 Hillman Minx, a small British sedan. Rated at 37.5 horsepower (note the point 5) with a 4-speed on the column (tree). Luckily it came with a factory shop manual; I remember in the introduction, drivers were warned of the dangers of the "modern high-speed motor car"! Great fun and lots of memories with that car.

My first car was a black 1957 Chevy belair 2-door I bought for around six hundred bucks in my senior year. I really loved that car, I got about 5 miles per gallon. I remember my friend Bill wind (G.1968) put a Pacesetters pic of it in the January 67 edition of the Pacific Current. I guess that was my 15 minutes!:-). That car was great for cruising the strip on East 14th on the weekends, and got me back and forth to work at the Airport Auto Movie in Oakland where a lot of kids from Pacific went to hang on the weekends. I eventually met my wife Donna Baker(PHS 1969),while she was working there. We celebrate our 50th Anniversary this year. I sure do miss that ride!

Joseph Steele (1968)

After school I worked my butt off to get my first new car. And back then 3,600 hundred bucks was mucho denero. But I saved and saved and finally put my order in at Art Bridges for a brand new GTO  British racing green with a black vinyl top and black interior.with a four speed.  Well I finally got my first brand new car I couldn't have been so happy 1969 GTO. Three weeks after owning this GTO my first problem occurred so back to Art Bridges for my first repair well first repair became the last of about  five repairs but there was no lemon laws back then so it was fix it for the last time. Now I've got a brand new GTO with a factory misaligned  transmission and damaging every throughout bering put in it. So after the last repair it was time to think about what I was going to do. Well as you all no and seeing each other on the strip every weekend that you never saw me in a GTO. so taking that brand new GTO to the dodge dealership I think was the best thing I ever did. After leaving the DODGE  dealer ship I left with my second new car in 1969. I left the dealership with my best car and stayed my car till 1980 wish I new how to put a picture but I'm sure you all remember it another british racing green car but only a dodge this time. Yup it was a CHARGER now of course I wish I still had it because there going for big bucks now but having that car was a great experience. And having two brand new cars in one year  wow that will never happen ever again. And Joe I remember that 1959 Galaxy 500. And Mikes orange 1954 ford. And Calvins 1955 Chevy Pete's 1960 Galaxy ford and Arts 1957  Chevy Jerry Ulliberi 1956 and when Clark bought his brand new GT mustang hp. Ok guess I've been to the twilight zone. It's just good to remember the days that made everyone happy. Just don't forget those days because there the special ones.

My first car was a 1972 BMW 2002 in bright orange.  I bought it off of my parents in 1980 for $2,002.00, (my parents had a sense of humor).  They bought it while we were visiting my grandma in Germany in 1972 and we drove it all around Europe for 3 months and then had it imported back to California.  I had that car until 1985 while living in Texas and then traded it with my Dad for a better, newer BMW.  I've had BMWs ever since then.

Joe, I remember the Charger like it was yesterday.  Parked in Loray's parking lot, chilling and socializing.  Sure wish we still had those Mopar beasts now, huh?

Joe & Rick...I can vividly remember cruising in both your cars...beep beep your ass Rick...loved that Roadrunner you had! Fun times with you both!

Rick Olivero (1969)

Joe,  so true, to be young again but in the same era.  Boy we had fun, didn't we?  Your Charger was bad ass for sure.

Carol Lynn, we all had a great time back then.  I remember, among all the other crazy s_ _t we did, going to Juaquin Miller Park and just hanging out, waxing the cars and sipping (ha) beer.

By the way my first car was a 1962 Chevrolet Impala, which I bought my junior yr.  In 1969 right after I graduated I bought a '69' Roadrunner and in 1971 traded that in for a '71' Cuda.

Rick Webb (1976)

My first car was a '79 Volvo 242DL.  I was proud of it as I bought it new, but that pride definitely didn't last long as the thing was a LEMON.  I know a lot of cars of that era were but this one just seemed especially bad (and that's especially bad for a brand that sold itself on it's reliability and durability).  I've had two cars since (yes, only 3 cars owned in 40+ years of ownership) and both were better by *far*.

Don't we all wish we still had these cars. My first car was a 1966 baby blue Mustang paid $550 which got stolen one year later at Bay Fair BART station. Got it returned after 5 months and sold it to my friend for $1000 and then it got stolen again and returned damaged his time, After the Mustang was stolen I bought a 1969 orange Camero for $800 sold it 13 years later for $3600.

Rick Olivero...those beers we called Buffy's...car wash then road trip to wax...hanging out in Pring's parking lot or cruising the strip...best of times for sure! Beep Beep....and thanks for all the rides home from school too! You were all so good to me!

My 1st car was a baby blue Opal Cadette I paid $900 for which was saved money from working at Roos Atkins while still going to school...it would never start in the morning so my Dad would push me a few yards and I would pop the clutch and leave it running out front while I got ready for school...haha...couldn't do that these days! Never had issues with starting in afternoon---only cold mornings. The part to fix it was more than the car was worth. 2nd car was a brand new gold w/ black striped Pinto...the rear end was under warranty---all 3 of them...on the 4th I traded it in....had heaps of fun in that car but they were not made well for sure! Last Ford I ever owned because of that. I then bought a new '76 Corvette and have owned 3 since......even brought one to NZ with me as I would never afford one here. Joe Steele...you get my love of Vette's, as you also feel the same!  Great times at Pacific...wonderful memories!
