Just wanted to let everyone know Mel passed away Jan 4, 2013 from along illness. he had been ill from Leukemia for the last few years. I will always miss my brother. he was a great person and loved baseball where he coached for many years.

Mark Emmett (1972)

    I grew up living next to Melvin. When we were about 12 or 13 we started a band that we had a good time with. We also went water skiing as teenagers. We always had a good time. He was a great guy and will be missed.

Sorry to hear of Mel's passing...he was always kind to everyone and fun to be around. I can still see him smile! Hopefully fond memories will help the family through their grief...see you on the other side Mel!

Sue Ferreira (Nunes) (1967)

Melvin Pimentel Resident of San Leandro Born in Taunton, Mass. on Oct. 14th, 1952 to Louise (who proceeded him in death) and Serafim Pimentel. He was the oldest of 3 children. He loved sports, especially baseball, in which he coached Babe Ruth & American Legion Leagues for 20+ years. Melvin was in the Royal Airs Drum and Bugle Corps horn section for 3 years and he also served in the Air Force. His career was a taper until he became ill. He passed away in Hayward after a long illness. Melvin is survived by his step-daughter Melissa and granddaughter Kailey as well as his father, Serafim, siblings Everett and wife Alissa, Rose and husband Jim, 2 nieces Alicia, Amanda and 3 nephews Mike, Jeff and Dylan and all their families, including a great niece, Ella. Memorial service will be at Santos Robinson (160 Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro) on Jan 19, 2013 at 10AM. Following the service, those who would like to come are invited to Mel's dad's house in San Leandro. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Leukemia foundation.

Colette Petitjean (Black) (1971)

I lived down the street from Melvin and only remember a nice, smiling kid who I liked a lot.  So sad to see you leave Melvin.  God bless you.
